Woodstock High Junior Earns Perfect ACT Score

WOODSTOCK, GA — A Cherokee County School District junior has achieved a perfect score on the ACT.

Woodstock High School junior Thomas Arntzen earned the top composite score of 36 on the college entrance and placement test. On average, less than one-half of 1 percent of the 1.8 Million students who take the ACT each year earn the top score.

“Congratulations to Thomas, his family and his teachers on this impressive accomplishment,” Superintendent of Schools Brian Hightower said. “Thomas is an outstanding Wolverine, and we’re so proud of him and all he does in his school and community.”

Arntzen is a high-achieving student at Woodstock High School, a leader on its Math Team and a member of the National Honors Society and Science National Honors Society. Arntzen plays trombone in the Wolverine Marching Band program and is a member of the school’s jazz and concert bands, and, outside of schools, plays with GYSO jazz. He also is an active volunteer at his church, Woodstock City.

Exceptional scores on the exam provide colleges with evidence of student readiness for the academic rigors that lie ahead, according to ACT. The exam includes English, mathematics, reading and science sections; each section is scored on a scale of 1-36, and the composite score is the average of the four.

Arntzen will be recognized by the Cherokee County School Board and Superintendent of Schools at the School Board Meeting on Feb. 13
