The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Woodstock-Towne Lake.

Hello all. It's me, Nicole Fallon-Peek, your host of the Woodstock-Towne Lake Daily. Here are all the most important things to know about what's happening locally.

First, today's weather:

A t-storm around in the p.m. High: 91 Low: 74.

Here are the top five stories in Woodstock-Towne Lake today:

  1. As the 2022-23 school year approaches, Cherokee County School District will be holding open houses at each of its elementary, middle, and high schools ahead of the first day of classes. Students will be able to walk through their schools on Jul. 28 or 29 and get their class schedules and teacher assignments. Most of Woodstock's schools will have their open houses on Thursday, Jul. 28, but several will be held on Jul. 29. The full schedule, including designated times based on student last names or grade levels, can be found here. The school year begins across the district on Monday, Aug. 1. (Cherokee County School District)
  2. What's happening at your local library this week? There's a little something for everyone going on at the Woodstock Public Library and the Rose Creek Public Library! Today is Maker Monday at Rose Creek, where crafters will gather to create jellyfish hangers at 10:30 a.m., and at 2:00 p.m., Woodstock will host a Family Game Night with Unite Homeschool. Tomorrow, Rose Creek will host a workshop on Surf the Web Internet Safety, and on Wednesday, both libraries will have a morning Family Storytime session. Thursday events include "Weird Ocean Foods" at Rose Creek and a drop-in STEM event at Woodstock. Finally, on Friday at noon, don't miss the Picadilly Puppets Presents: A "Shore Thing" Puppet Show at Woodstock. Get all the details on the library calendar! (Sequoyah Regional Library System)
  3. A Woodstock WWII veteran is celebrating his 100th birthday this weekend. On Jul. 10, local resident Russell Vaudrey, a bomber pilot in the Army Air Corps, will reach this milestone birthday in the town where he has spent the last 32 years of his life. Vaudrey served from October 1942 to November 1945 and earned five Bronze Star Medals and one Silver Star Medal during that time. After his time in the military, he had a career in sales in California before retiring to Georgia. Family and friends have reportedly planned a party on Sunday to celebrate the occasion. 4. Looking for a new job in the Woodstock-Towne Lake area? There are plenty of local employers who are hiring for full- and part-time positions right now, including some remote work opportunities. Available openings include jobs in customer service, hospital work, warehousing, sales, and more. Check out Patch's latest employment roundup for job details and to learn how to apply. 5. Incumbent Governor Brian Kemp is gearing up for a rematch this November against 2018 opponent Stacey Abrams, and so far, Kemp appears to be trailing behind in fundraising. The official numbers are expected to be released later this week, but based on the last race, experts believe Abrams may be ahead of Kemp's estimated $22 million raised so far for his reelection bid. According to records, one of Kemp's donors is SDH Management Service, a two-year-old LLC connected to Woodstock-based homebuilding company Smith Douglas Homes that sent the PAC $150,000 in July 2021.
