Woodstock's Greenprints Trails To Get New Addition

The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners approved the $2.8 million project to build the Towne Lake Pass trail.

WOODSTOCK, GA -- The long-awaited connection of Towne Lake to downtown Woodstock will soon become a reality.

Cherokee County Commissioners at its Dec. 6 meeting approved construction contract with Integrated Construction & Nobility, Inc. to build the Towne Lake Pass trail.

The $2.86 million project calls for constructing the 1.2-mile, 1o-foot wide concrete trail from the Woofstock Dog Park at 150 Dupree Road to Towne Lake Hills South. Its path will run northwest from the dog park, under I-575 and through the wooded area near Woodstock Middle and High schools until it reaches Towne Lake Hills South.

The project would also construct concrete sidewalks along Towne Lake Hills Drive South from the trailhead to Woodstock High School and Towne Lake Hills South Drive from the trailhead to Towne Lake Parkway.

The project will be funded using Woodstock's portion of the county's 2008 parks bond proceeds.

Woodstock City Manager Jeff Moon said the project represents the last portion of trail it requested as its allotment under the bond.

"We’re excited to get it underway and expand our downtown connection to Towne Lake," he said.

Parks and Recreation Director Preston Pooser said work should be able to start "soon," and that the trail could take more than a year to build.

Towne Lake Hills Pass will also provided access to Noonday Creek trail, which runs from Market Street towards Pine Hill Drive, continues to the dog park and south along the creek until it ends at Highway 92.

Another segment, the Rubes Creek trail, also runs south along that creek — near Arnold Mill Road close to the Woodstock Fire Station 14 — and will be about .75 miles. That portion is under construction and should open in the coming weeks.
