Today's riddle: The more you take, the more you leave behind. What am I ? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Public Utilities Commission to hold meetings on Hawaiian Electric storm outages; none yet set for Maui County (mauinow.com) — State regulators are holding a series of public meetings, including one for East Honolulu and Windward Oʻahu, to hear residents' concerns about Hawaiian Electric's recent storm-related outages. While no Maui County dates are set yet, Honolulu residents can attend in person or submit written comments referencing Docket No. 2021-0024 to help shape future reliability and planning decisions.
2. Hawaiian Telcom accelerates fiber upgrades after recent storms (hawaiinewsnow.com) — Hawaiian Telcom, based in Honolulu, is speeding up its shift from copper lines to fiber after recent storms, aiming to restore and improve service more quickly for customers. Nearly 90% of Hawaiʻi residents already have access, and affected customers here may be required or encouraged to upgrade at no cost when fiber is available in their neighborhood.
3. Hawaii energy programs are set to save over $1 billion (khon2.com) — State and county agencies, including those serving Honolulu, are using energy performance contracts to upgrade nearly 300 public buildings, with projects expected to save taxpayers about $1.19 billion. Improvements like new lighting, air conditioning, and solar installations are modernizing airports, highways, harbors, and other facilities while advancing Hawaii's clean energy goals.
4. Hawaii Is The Only State Without A Highway Patrol, But That Doesn't Mean You Can't Get Pulled Over (jalopnik.com) — Honolulu, as Hawaiʻi's dense capital on Oʻahu, is central to a statewide discussion about traffic enforcement even though the state has no formal highway patrol. The Department of Law Enforcement is moving toward a dedicated traffic unit that would focus on speeding, impaired driving, and truck compliance on Oʻahu highways, adding to existing local and state law enforcement efforts.
