📰 News we're reading

1. Virus linked to 'dangerous' neurological condition on rise in Boise. Who's at risk? (idahostatesman.com) — Health experts are detecting high levels of enterovirus D68 in Boise‑area wastewater, signaling a possible rise in infections that can sometimes lead to serious breathing problems or even paralysis in children. While most cases are mild, kids under 7, people with asthma, and those with weakened immune systems are at higher risk, so families should pay attention to respiratory symptoms and basic hygiene precautions.

2. Micron's Boise expansion means a job boom, housing crunch, and infrastructure challenges (ktvb.com) — Micron's massive Boise expansion is bringing thousands of jobs while intensifying pressure on housing, traffic, and local infrastructure across the Treasure Valley. City and county leaders describe new zoning, road-impact fees, water and emergency-service planning, and tax debates as they try to ensure growth pays for itself and Boise families can still find affordable places to live and commute safely.

3. Teen arrested after 70-plus mph e-moto chase from Boise to Eagle Island Park (idahostatesman.com) — A teen on an electric motorcycle led deputies on a high‑speed chase that started at Chinden and Linder in Boise and ended with his arrest near Eagle High School. The incident comes as Boise has tightened rules on high‑powered e‑motos, while nearby cities like Garden City and Eagle weigh how to handle the fast‑growing trend.

4. Judge finds Boise Greenbelt murder suspect incompetent to stand trial (kivitv.com) — A judge in Boise has ruled the man accused in July's fatal Boise Greenbelt stabbing is not currently competent to stand trial, pausing the murder case while doctors work to restore his competency. The decision highlights Idaho's rules on mental illness in criminal cases, which don't allow an insanity defense but do require defendants to understand proceedings and assist their attorneys.

5. No. 25 Cougars hit .400 in sweep of Broncos (byucougars.com) — Boise sports fans saw BYU sweep Boise State women's volleyball in three sets at ExtraMile Arena, despite a late Broncos push in the final frame. The Cougars hit an impressive .400 and out-blocked Boise State, but the match still offered a look at how the Broncos battled back and where they'll look to improve next.
