Consultants say declining enrollment and mounting maintenance costs are driving three major scenarios, with a long-range facilities plan and possible funding decisions expected over the next few years.
   

2. Only A Couple Of Weekends Remain For The Boise Flea Market (kidotalkradio.com) — Boise shoppers have just two more Sundays to enjoy the seasonal Boise Flea Market outside Albertsons Stadium before the 2026 season wraps up. With dates set for September 27 and the final market in early October, it's a last chance to browse local vendors in the sunshine while other summer patios and activities wind down around town.
   

3. Idaho submits new Opportunity Zone candidates: Downtowns, Boise mall area, more could be in program for tax breaks (boisedev.com) — Boise could soon gain five new federally designated Opportunity Zones, potentially steering long-term, tax-advantaged investment into local housing, small businesses, and redevelopment projects. State officials have submitted 25 candidate tracts statewide, and Boise's mayor says the city targeted areas with strong growth potential near infrastructure, parks, schools, and transit to support more homes, jobs, and stronger neighborhoods.
   

4. Secretary of state announces new 'Idaho Free Speech Summit' in partnership with UI, BSU (spokesman.com) — Boise will host the inaugural Idaho Free Speech Summit on Oct. 13, bringing policymakers, students, and residents together to explore First Amendment issues and civil discourse. Featuring Utah Gov. Spencer Cox and local university leaders, the daylong event offers panels, CLE credit for attorneys, and registration details online for Boise-area community members interested in constructive dialogue.
   

5. Police solve case of 'The Unknown Wanderer,' who was found dead beneath church pew in 1982 (local12.com) — Boise police have finally identified the man long known as "The Unknown Wanderer," found dead beneath a church pew at Sacred Heart in 1982, as Dr. Mathew Francis Betkouski. Using DNA and a property deed linked to a key on his body, investigators confirmed his identity and reviewed, but did not substantiate, any connection to the Chicago Tylenol murders.
