Local firefighters to receive Idaho Medal of Honor awards for canal rescue (rexburgstandardjournal.com) — Two Idaho Falls Fire Department senior firefighters will receive Idaho's Medal of Honor for rescuing four people trapped in a submerged vehicle after a Bingham County crash. Off duty at the time, they responded via a phone alert, entered frigid canal water, and carried each victim to safety; the public can attend the Boise ceremony Sept. 1.

Two men die after jet boat overturns on Snake River below Palisades Dam (idahostatejournal.com) — Two men involved in a jet boat rollover near Palisades Dam were airlifted to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, where both later died despite extensive rescue efforts. Bonneville County deputies, Swan Valley Fire, Idaho Falls Ambulance, bystanders, and dive teams all responded, and authorities emphasize that life jackets were on board but not worn.
   

3. Russets secure first win of season over Idaho Falls in heavy rain (localnews8.com) — Idaho Falls football fans saw the Tigers fall 24-14 to Shelley in a rain-soaked home game, leaving Idaho Falls still searching for its first win. Heavy second-half rain and a mishandled punt in Idaho Falls swung momentum, while senior quarterback Will Thompson's late touchdown wasn't enough to close the gap.
   

4. Ask an attorney: Kohberger wants to take back his guilty plea. What happens next? (localnews8.com) — An Idaho Falls-based defense attorney helps explain what it means that Bryan Kohberger is asking to withdraw the guilty plea that brought four life sentences in the University of Idaho killings. The judge has set a 2027 status conference and a possible evidentiary hearing, but Kohberger faces a steep legal climb and currently remains convicted and sentenced.
