  • Saturday: Sunshine with a shower, with a high of 75 and low of 51 degrees.

📰 News we're reading

1. Life Flight needed a state-of-the-art training center. Meridian was the ideal spot (idahostatesman.com) — A new Life Flight Network Clinical Center of Excellence has opened in Meridian, bringing Idaho's first dedicated medical air transport training facility to town. The 10,000‑square‑foot center, co-located with Life Flight's dispatch hub, will host advanced simulations, a cadaver lab, and on-site aircraft and ambulance training, strengthening Meridian's growing role as a regional medical hub.

2. Leaders across Ada County unite to combat the growing rat problem (ktvb.com) — Meridian officials say they're fielding many calls about rats damaging homes, cars and property, as Ada County and all six city mayors work on a coordinated response. Leaders agreed to create a countywide rat-reporting tracker and are weighing education campaigns, ordinances and possible financial help for residents who can't afford pest control. Meridian households are urged to watch for reporting tools soon.

3. New fees could be coming for Boise developers to fund county facilities (boisedev.com) — Ada County is asking Boise to collect new impact fees from developers to help fund county facilities, while Meridian is coordinating its approach and already co-locates some EMS facilities. Because Idaho law doesn't clearly cover coroner buildings, Meridian and Garden City say they can't collect fees for the county's overbuilt coroner facility in Meridian, though that could change if legislators revise the statute.

4. New ISP forensics lab designed to keep all Idahoans safer (idahostatejournal.com) — A new $29 million Idaho State Police forensics lab is being built across from ISP headquarters in Meridian, with opening planned for January 2028. State leaders say the 20,000-square-foot facility will expand DNA, digital and ballistic analysis, speeding investigations and supporting every law enforcement agency statewide, while bringing cutting-edge public safety resources directly into Meridian's backyard.

5. Idaho man faces vehicular manslaughter charge in son's death. Now, another wreck (idahostatesman.com) — A Meridian man already facing vehicular manslaughter and child injury charges from a 2025 I-84 crash that killed his 7-year-old son has now been cited in a separate Valley County hit-and-run incident. Court dates this month in Canyon and Valley counties will determine how his new misdemeanor case proceeds alongside the earlier felony charges, which remain unresolved.
