11 Tornadoes Hit IL During Storm: National Weather Service
Severe thunderstorms and large hail were reported throughout the area with tornadoes seen in at least five counties.

ILLINOIS — Wednesday was a clean-up day for many communities following severe weather, including tornadoes, large hail and thunderstorms, the previous night. In all, the National Weather Service said 11 tornadoes touched down during the storm.
As of Thursday morning, the confirmed tornadoes occurred in the following counties:
- Compton Tornado (Lee County)
- Waterman Tornado (DeKalb County)
- Hinckley to Big Rock Tornado (DeKalb/Kane County)
- Sugar Grove to Batavia Tornado (Kane County)
- Elburn to Campton Hills Tornado (Kane County)
- Geneva Tornado (Kane County)
- Gary Tornado (Lake County, Indiana)
- South Barrington Tornado (Cook County)
- Inverness Tornado (Cook County)
- Mundelein Tornado (Lake County)
- Hoffman Estates Tornado (Cook County)
The National Weather Service said the severe thunderstorms affected areas north of I-80 on Tuesday night. There were also numerous reports of large hail from the Chicago area west along the I-88/I-80 corridors. Wind damage was also reported throughout the area.

In Mundelein, one woman was injured, and 59 people were displaced after the roof of an apartment complex partially collapsed amid the stormy weather. At least eight houses in Geneva suffered "moderate to heavy damage."
The storm followed summer-like, record warmth across Chicagoland and the state. Rockford broke their all-time record daily high for February and meteorological winter on Monday with a high of 73. That record was beaten Tuesday with a high of 78 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Chicago fell one degree short of setting its own all-time daily record with a 74 on Tuesday. The city remains on pace for a record high average temperature for February.

Temperatures dropped 20 to 30 degrees over the course of just an hour Tuesday, with strong northwest winds gusting to 35 to 45 mph.
