3 IL Big Lots Stores Slated To Close Following Latest Earnings Report
Big Lots has designated stores for closure nationally amid financial woes, including $205 million in losses for the first quarter of 2024.
ILLINOIS — Following a disappointing earnings report for its latest quarter, discount retail chain Big Lots has announced closures of stores across the country, including three in Illinois. The Columbus, Ohio-based chain 29 stores in the state.
According to the company's store locator, the Illinois stores slated for closure are the following:
- 1608 N Larkin Ave., Crest Hill
- 340 Summit Drive, Lockport
- 7233 W Dempster St., Niles
"We missed our sales goals due largely to a continued pullback in consumer spending by our core customers, particularly in high ticket discretionary items," Big Lots President and CEO Bruce Thorn said in a statement.

Last month, Big Lots announced a net loss of $205 million for the first quarter of fiscal year 2024. In an SEC filing, the company said there is a "significant likelihood" that Big Lots won't be able to meet the terms of a credit agreement.
