Severe Storm Threat Follows Potential 80-Degree Weather In Chicago Area

The highest chances for storms are near and south of Interstate 80, according to the weather service.

As temperatures increase this week, a "powerhouse cold front" could bring some severe storms to the area on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Tuesday's high is 56 degrees, followed by a high of 71 on Wednesday, and highs could reach into the 80s in some areas on Thursday.

The weather service said it will be "breezy and unseasonably warm" on Thursday ahead of a cold front.

The cold front will move south across the area on Thursday afternoon and evening, the weather service said. It is "dramatically colder" behind the front, and temperatures will fall into the 50s.

"T-storms are expected with the front Thursday afternoon and evening, some could be severe," the weather service shared on its Facebook.
