Over 170,000 Customers Without Power Across Chicago Area

Over 170,000 customers remain without power in the Chicago area after severe weather on Wednesday. More severe weather is expected Thursday, with storms possible mid-day and later in the afternoon and evening.

On its website, ComEd said crews are working to "safely and efficiently restore outages."

"Based on the history of similar storms of this size, across the ComEd service area, we expect 80 percent of outages to be restored by Saturday, June 13, at 11 p.m.," ComEd said.

As of 9 a.m. Thursday, there are 172,485 customers affected by outages, and 5,247 active outages reported.

Chicago had the most customers affected, with 72,828 without power. Other towns impacted by outages included:

• Oak Lawn, 10,048 customers affected
• Joliet, 9,259 customers affected
• Alsip, 4,956 customers affected
• Worth, 3,421 customers affected
• Blue Island, 3,354 customers affected
• Hickory Hills, 2,990 customers affected
• Palos Heights, 2,960 customers affected
• Chicago Ridge, 2,815 customers affected
• Palos Hills, 2,775 customers affected
• Evergreen Park, 2,689 customers affected

Another round of severe weather is expected Thursday. The National Weather Service said there is a threat for strong tornadoes between 4 and 8 p.m. on Thursday.

The weather service advised taking tornado warnings seriously and having multiple ways to get warnings Thursday evening.
