Bitter Cold Moves Into Illinois, No Snow Expected

Low temperatures could be 15 degrees below zero on Monday night.

ILLINOIS — Temperatures will be "bitterly cold" to start off the work week, especially on Monday night, which has a high of only 5 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

While it will be cold, the week ahead does look dry, with no precipitation expected after snowstorms last week, the weather service said.

Monday will have a high of 18 degrees, and temperatures could get as low as 15 below zero on Monday night. The coldest temperatures will be to the north, with -10 to -15 expected for the Waukegan area, and 0 to -5 expected for the Chicago and Joliet areas.

Tuesday will be similar to Monday, with a high of 19 degrees, according to the weather service. Tuesday night will have a high of 7 degrees.

AccuWeather said that Tuesday will be "mostly sunny and bitterly cold." The private forecaster said the "RealFeel" on Tuesday will be 10 degrees.

Temperatures will warm slightly on Wednesday and Thursday, which have respective highs of 29 and 35 degrees, but a "reinforcing shot of cold air" will move into the area on Thursday night, according to the weather service.

Friday will be cold again, with a high of 17 degrees.
