NORMAL, IL — Police are seeking the public’s help as they continue to investigate a weekend shooting that injured six teens near the Illinois State University campus in Normal, according to authorities.

The shooting occurred around 2:40 a.m. Sunday in the 700 block of Franklin Avenue, less than a mile from campus, Normal police said. The Illinois State University Police Department confirmed Sunday that two of the victims were students at the school. No one was immediately arrested, Normal police said.

The victims, none of whom suffered life-threatening injuries, were identified Monday as: a 17-year-old Bloomington boy, a 17-year-old Peoria boy, an 18-year-old Normal woman, an 18-year-old Bloomington man, a 19-year-old Bloomington man and a 19-year-old Chicago woman, according to police.

“If you were in attendance, live nearby, or were traveling through the area at the time, we ask that you review any potential evidence you may have.”

Possible evidence would include security footage, cellphone videos or photos, dashboard camera recordings, and social media posts or messages tied to the incident, according to police.

“Even information that may seem minor could be significant to investigators,” the Normal Police Department said.

In response to concerns about why a university emergency alert was not issued after the shooting, the school’s police department said on social media that the incident was isolated and occurred off-campus.

“Emergency Alerts are reserved for situations involving an immediate threat to campus safety,” the university police department said. “This helps prevent false alarms and reduces alert fatigue, ensuring our community takes life saving action when it is truly needed.”

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Normal police at 309-454-9535; anonymously submit a tip through the Normal Police Department app or text “NORMALPD” to 847411, followed by a space and the message; or upload video at bit.ly/4lV3XEU, according to authorities.
