Freeze Warning For Chicago Area, Temps In The 20s

ILLINOIS — A freeze warning has been issued for the Chicago area as temperatures as low as 25 degrees are expected Sunday night into Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

The warning has been issued for Winnebago, Boone, McHenry, Lake, Ogle, DeKalb, Kane, DuPage, La Salle, Kendall, Grundy, Kankakee, Cook and Will counties from midnight to 9 a.m. Monday.

The weather service said the frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, sensitive vegetation and could damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

A high of 41 degrees is expected on Monday, and an even colder high of 39 degrees is expected on Halloween, which is Tuesday, according to the weather service.

Rain is possible Sunday afternoon and evening, especially south of Interstate 80.

Then, "a cool and breezy Halloween with a chance to see some snow showers," is possible on Tuesday, according to the weather service.

If it snows on Tuesday, it would be the ninth Halloween on record with snow recorded in Chicago. According to the weather service, there has been of snow on six Halloweens, and measurable snow on two Halloweens.

The snowiest Halloween was in 2019, when it snowed 3.4 inches in Chicago.
