IL Tax Rebates Set To Go Out Next Week — See If You Qualify

Some households may receive hundreds of dollars.

ILLINOIS — Many Illinoisans can expect a tax rebate in the coming weeks.

One-time income and property tax rebates are expected to start being issued to qualifying residents during the week of Sept. 12 in accordance with the Illinois Family Relief Plan, according to the state’s Department of Revenue.

The income tax rebate is $50 or $100 per couple, plus $100 for each dependent up to a maximum of three, according to the state. To qualify, residents must have lived in Illinois in 2021 and have an adjusted gross income under $200,000, or $400,000 per couple.

The property tax rebate is equal to the property tax credit that owners were qualified to claim on the 2021 IL-1040 up to $300, according to the state. To be eligible, residents must have paid property taxes in 2021 on a 2020 primary residence in Illinois and have an adjusted gross income of $250,000 or less, or $500,000 or less for couples.

Qualifying taxpayers have until Oct. 17 to file the 2021 IL-1040 for the income tax rebate, as well as the Schedule E/EIC for dependents. The same date applies for the IL-1040-PTR for the property tax rebate.
