Illinois Escapees: Sighting, Stolen Boat Reported

A manhunt continues after a resident reports spotting jail escapees Zachery Shock and Johnny Tipton on the Wabash River.

CARMI, IL — The manhunt for two White County Jail inmates continues as a tip came in Wednesday from a New Haven man who said he spotted the pair on the Wabash River. WEHT reported resident Hubert Clifford said Zachery Shock and Johnny Tipton came "roaring" down the river as he was fishing, around the time White County Sheriff Doug Maier said a boat was reported stolen in the area.

According to Maier, two law enforcement boats were searching the water Wednesday, in the "exhausting" ongoing manhunt.

New Haven is located just south of Carmi, where the two man and a third inmate who has since been captured, Justin Bray, broke out of the jail early Saturday morning.

Carmi Police Department reported that at approximately 5:30 a.m. on June 16, White County Corrections Officers advised that three inmates had escaped from the jail by using a pipe to break a hole in the wall in order to get outside. Police added that outside video showed all three subjects running on foot down an alley at 3:05 a.m.

ABC Chicago adds that Bray is also being charged with aggravated fleeing and resisting or obstructing a peace officer, and faces an additional charge for escaping and another $1 million bond.

Anyone with information on Shock and Tipton's whereabouts was asked to call the White County Sheriff's Office at 618-382-5321 or your local law enforcement agency.
