Jesse White Is Back For More; Wins 6th Term As Secretary Of State

Jesse White wins another term as Illinois Secretary of State against Republican Jason Helland, Libertarian Steve Dutner.

ACROSS ILLINOIS — With nearly 3 million votes in his favor, Illinois Democrat Secretary of State Jesse White won a sixth term Tuesday night against Republican Jason Helland, Grundy County State's Attorney since 2012, and Libertarian Steve Dutner, vice chair for the DuPage Libertarians, according to results and a chart from The Sun-Times.

When it comes to the issue of term limits for politicians in Illinois, White's opponent Helland is adamant the state put them in place.

"Secretary White and Michael Madigan should have completed their goals for the Secretary of State office by now," Helland said regarding White's 20 years in office. However, White will now continue his ongoing stretch in office.

As far as what to look out for with White's sixth term in office, White said when it comes to the Federal Real ID Act, his office is implementing the program, and it will be fully compliant in 2019.

White was matter-of-fact in a recent interview with The Sun-Times when he mentioned the BAIID (Breath Alcohol Ignition Interlock Device) program as he recalled road safety successes.

"We implemented one of the most comprehensive Breath Alcohol Ignition Interlock Device (BAIID) programs in the nation," White said.
