Illinoisans Could Receive $102 Payout From Trader Joe's Class Action Settlement: See If You Qualify

Trader Joe's could pay as much as $102 per eligible customer after settling a $7.4 million class action lawsuit.

The lawsuit, filed in 2019, alleged some Trader Joe's stores printed the first six and last four digits of customers' credit and debit cards on receipts, making them susceptible to identity theft, according to the claim.

Including that many card numbers violated the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act, the court notice claimed. Middle digits, expiration dates, and customer names, addresses and other identifiable information were not printed.

The popular grocer denied allegations and any wrongdoing but agreed to settle to avoid further litigation. In the more than five years since the suit was filed, Trader Joe's said no one has reported identity theft based on the allegations.

Customers could receive up to $102.45 from the settlement. The final payment amount will depend on the total number of valid claims.

If shoppers made a purchase at a Trader Joe's store using a credit or debit card between March 5, 2019, and July 19, 2019, they may be able to receive reparations.

Customers have until June 9 to file a claim. The final approval hearing is scheduled for Aug. 10.
