Mark Curran Wins Republican US Senate Primary
The former Democrat who was narrowly unseated as Lake County sheriff last year will face U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin in November.

CHICAGO — In a five-way race for the Republican Party nomination to challenge U.S. Senator Dick Durbin, Mark Curran came out on top Tuesday.
The former Lake County sheriff and won the endorsement of the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times, the Cook and Lake County GOP and many suburban Republican organizations in the Chicago area.

Trailing him by more than 20 points, Curran's nearest competitor was retired U.S. Navy service member Peggy Hubbard.

Tom Tarter, a Springfield surgeon who prioritized immigration reform, was in third place, narrowly in front of Robert Marshall, a Burr Ridge doctor who ran for governor in 2018 as a Democrat and has previously run for Congress, is an advocate for dividing Illinois into multiple states. He was in fourth place with nearly 40 percent of precincts reporting.
Casey Chlebek, a Glenview real estate manager who touted his experience as an immigrant from Poland, was in fifth place.
