Massive Bread Recall Hits IL: Here's Why, What To Know

Focaccia bread distributed to 10 states is being recalled due to possible metal fragments, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The product was shipped to Illinois and nine other states, including Arizona, California, Florida, Connecticut, Michigan, North Carolina, New Jersey, Texas and Virginia.

The company recalling the product is food manufacturer Bakkavor, which is based in Charlotte, North Carolina.

“The firm discovered metal fragments in various bread products,” the FDA said. “They determined the cause to be roasted tomatoes provided by one of their ingredient suppliers.”

The voluntary, company-initiated recall impacts 23,459 cases of bread.

The recall is classified as Class II, which means “exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote,” according to the FDA.
