Pritzker Demands $8.6B From Trump For Illegal Tariffs: 'Compensation Is Owed To The People Of Illinois'
The Illinois governor invoiced the White House for $8,679,261,600 to reimburse families affected by the global tariffs.
Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker is demanding that President Donald Trump refund the state more than $8 billion after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the administration's global tariffs.
Supreme Court justices Friday agreed by a vote of 6-3 that the sweeping "reciprocal" tariffs Trump levied on nearly every country in the world are unlawful.
The ruling, the first of Trump's wider agenda to appear before SCOTUS since the start of his second term last year, is seen as a major blow to the president. Justices Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas and Brett Kavanaugh dissented, and Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the majority opinion.

In response to the ruling, Pritzker said Friday that "relief is finally coming." In an attempt to bring it forth, he shared a letter addressed to Trump Friday afternoon on social media, demanding the president "cut the check" to Illinois families for the havoc caused by the tariffs.

In the comments section, Pritzker attached an invoice, which stated 5,105,448 Illinois families were owed $1,700 in reimbursement.
Read Pritzker's letter:
Your tariff taxes wreaked havoc on farmers, enraged our allies, and sent grocery prices through the roof. This morning, your hand-picked Supreme Court Justices notified you that they are also unconstitutional.
On behalf of the people of Illinois, I demand a refund of $1,700 for every family in Illinois. There are 5,105,448 households in my state, bringing the total damages you owe to $8,679,261,600.
The Supreme Court has ruled that this is yet one more unconstitutional act by you and your administration. This letter and the attached invoice stand as an official notice that compensation is owed to the people of Illinois, and if you do not comply we will pursue further action.
Sincerely,
JB Pritzker
Trump, who appointed three conservative justices to SCOTUS during his first term, called Friday's decision by the nation's highest court a "disgrace" while hosting governors at a White House breakfast, CNN reported.
