Religious Group Loses Court Battle Over Illinois Abortion Coverage Law
A Sangamon County judge found the Reproductive Health Act does not violate the religious freedoms of the Illinois Baptist State Association. The Springfield-based group filed a lawsuit in 2020 contending that the law violated its religious beliefs, arguing that a mandate to offer health insurance plans that include abortion coverage imposed a substantial burden on its free exercise of religion under the Illinois Religious Freedom Restoration Act.
Surrounded by supporters, Terrance Freeman spoke out about his firing at a news conference on campus. He said he was called into a meeting with the administration at DePaul because he had taken a photo with Palestinian students just after Chicago Police removed a protest encampment for the Palestinian cause back in May.

14-Year-Old Accused Of Bringing Loaded Gun To High School
A Glendale Heights boy, 14, faces felony charges after police say he brought a loaded gun to Lombard High School. Police say school security was notified around 2:15 p.m. that a loaded 9mm handgun had been found in the boys' bathroom. Lombard police used the gun's serial number to trace it to an address in Glendale Heights where the 14-year-old lives.
Person Dies Of West Nile Virus In McHenry County
The death marks the first West Nile Virus-related death in McHenry County since 2018, according to the McHenry County Department of Health. The person developed symptoms in August and later died.

Man Charged With Sexually Assaulting Minor: Palatine PD
The 21-year-old South Elgin resident is facing three felonies following his arrest earlier this week. Police launched an investigation into Castro-Alvarez after a minor came forward to their mother about the abused, which allegedly occurred earlier this year.
