Warmer November For Chicago Area? Outlook Good For Unseasonable Temps

Temperatures are trending about 10 degrees warmer than normal for this time of year.

ILLINOIS — Confidence is growing that most of November will have above-average temperatures for the Chicago area, according to the National Weather Service. Temperature outlooks show a large portion of the nation will see above average temperatures through Nov. 20.

"Some of the highest chances of above normal temps and potentially the largest warm anomalies are forecast to be centered around the Great Lakes," the weather service said.

Unseasonably mild temperatures were expected Wednesday, with a high of 74 for areas south of Interstate 80, and a high of 58 for areas north of I-80, according to the weather service.

The rest of the work week will also feature highs in the low 50s, and highs of 49 and 52 are expected on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Highs in the 50s are above the average temperatures for this time of year in Chicago, according to data from the weather service.

In data from 1991 to 2020, average temperatures for Chicago were in the upper 40s at the beginning of November, and fall to the mid-30s by the end of the month.

The average temperature for Nov. 8 is typically 44.5 degrees. Wednesday's forecast puts temperatures about 10 degrees above that average.
