When Extreme Heat Will End And Storms May Roll In: 4th Of July Weekend Forecast For Chicago Area

The heat wave continues on Thursday, but "some relief from the heat may come over the holiday weekend," the National Weather Service said.

An extreme heat warning that was issued for the entire Chicago area ends at midnight tonight. Heat index values up to 105 degrees are expected Thursday.

The weather service said a "loosely organized cluster" of storms is possible Thursday evening, into the overnight hours.

Friday is still expected to be very warm, with a high of 92 degrees and heat index values near 100 degrees, according to the current forecast.

If you're heading out to any fireworks displays on Friday or Saturday, you might want to keep an eye on the forecast, as storms are possible, and check to make sure it hasn't been canceled due to weather.

The weather service said there should still be plenty of dry periods this weekend, but a stormy pattern is expected through Saturday night. The strongest storms could bring damaging winds, hail and flooding.
