Woman Kidnapped, Sexually Assaulted By Man From Dating App: Police

The man brandished a gun and threatened to kill the woman if she went to police, authorities said.

DEKALB, IL — A DeKalb woman was kidnapped and sexually assaulted over the weekend by a man from a dating app, according to police.

Tyrus Bartholomew, 32, of Arlington, Texas, is charged with aggravated kidnapping and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, both felonies, police said.

Officers responded Monday to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital regarding the incident, according to police. The woman had communicated with Bartholomew on the Tagged app, police said.

Bartholomew picked the woman up at her home around 2 a.m. Sunday and brandished a gun as soon as she entered his vehicle, driving her to a second location, sexually assaulting her and threatening to kill her if she contacted police, before releasing her, according to authorities.

Detectives used an automated license plate reader system to track Bartholomew’s vehicle to Rockford, and he was arrested, police said.
