1 Dead In Crash Near Hampshire

KANE COUNTY, IL — A 40-year-old Elgin woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash near Hampshire on Tuesday morning, authorities said.

The collision happened at about 7 a.m. on Allen Road near Ketchum Road in unincorporated Hampshire Township, according to a news release from the Kane County Sheriff's Office. Police say the collision occurred when a Chevrolet Trailblazer headed west on Allen Road crossed the center line and hit a Nissan Versa head on.

The driver of the Nissan, Maria Delacruz Serena-Garnica of Elgin, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Chevrolet, Maria De Jesus Flores Torres, 41, of Elgin, was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries. A passenger in the vehicle, Chevy Celia Lara Garnica, 52, of Elgin, was treated at the scene.

Icy roads are believed to have played a role in the crash, authorities said. No tickets have been issued, and the crash remains under investigation by Kane County Sheriff’s Office.
