17-Year-Old Algonquin Boy Charged As Adult In Connection With Crash
Dylan J. O'Boyle was under the influence of marijuana, court records show, at the time of a January rollover crash that injured five people.
ALGON QUIN, IL — A 17-year-old Algonquin boy faces felony charges and will be charged as an adult in connection with a crash that sent himself and four other people to the hospital in January, according to McHenry County court records.
Dylan J. O’Boyle faces two felonies, including aggravated driving under the influence causing great bodily harm and aggravated reckless driving causing great bodily harm after prosecutors maintain that he was under the influence of marijuana at the time of the Jan. 21 crash, court records show.
Police said at the time of the crash that a 17-year-old Algonquin boy was driving a 2013 Infiniti that passed another vehicle in a no-passing zone on Conley Road in unincorporated Grafton Township shortly after 8 p.m. The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said that the car then left the roadway, crashed through a fence, and rolled over in a field, injuring all five people, police said.

Four teenagers, including the driver, were taken to Northwestern Hospital in Huntley and Woodstock. A 17-year-old Algonquin girl was taken to a different suburban hospital after sustaining serious injuries, police said at the time.
According to the criminal complaint, O’Boyle also faces charges of having a THC concentration in his system within two hours of driving and illegal possession of alcohol by a minor, and unlawful possession of marijuana by a driver of a vehicle. According to the criminal complaint, police found “numerous small bottles of alcohol” in the car. O’Boyle also has been charged with driving too fast for conditions and having too many people under the age of 20 in his vehicle, according to court documents.

Other passengers injured include a 16-year-old Dundee boy, a 16-year-old Carpentersville boy, and an 18-year-old Carpentersville woman.
