$400K Grant To Pay For Park Upgrades
The grant will help pay for the $930,000 improvement project at the Algonquin Park.

ALGONQUIN, IL — A $400,000 grant will help pay for upgrades at Stoneybrook Park in Algonquin. Some of the new amenities planned as part of the $930,000 improvement project include bocce ball courts, pickleball courts, a gag ball pit, pavilion, walking trail and 15-space parking lot.
In addition, the existing playground and sand volleyball court will be replaced and improved, according to a village of Algonquin news release.
“The improvements at Stoneybrook Park will be a positive enhancement to our park system” village of Algonquin president John Schmitt said. “The park improvements will be a welcome addition to our recreational offerings and provide our community with new and popular family activities."

Construction on the Stoneybrook Park improvement project is expected to begin later this year and be completed in summer 2021, according to a news release. The grant award comes as the village begins the creation of a parks and recreation comprehensive master plan to help guide recreation offerings and park development over the next 10 years.
Governor JB Pritzker announced $28.9 million in grants for 83 local projects which will help communities acquire open space and develop and improve recreational facilities throughout Illinois in January. The OSLAD program is administered by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

Stoneybrook Park is located at 1200 Huntington Drive North in Algonquin.
