Algonquin, LITH Among Best Small Cities In America: Study
A new study ranks smaller cities based on affordability and quality of life.

ALGONQUIN-LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL — Algonquin and Lake in the Hills were among the best small cities in America, according to a recent study by WalletHub. The rankings came from 33 factors of "livability" from school quality to housing costs and restaurants.
The findings ranked 1,268 cities with populations between 25,000 and 100,000 based on affordability, economic health, education and health, quality of life and safety, with Algonquin ranking in the 97th percentile and Lake in the Hills in the 94th percentile.
Algonquin ranked 17th in affordability compared to Lake in the Hills, which came in 48th. Safety was also a factor raising the two cities on the list, with Algonquin coming in at 81st and Lake in the Hills at 14th.

Lots of other Illinois towns in the immediate area made the list, including St. Charles in the 95th percentile and Crystal Lake in the 91st percentile.
The 99th percentile represents the top 1 percent of small cities in America, according to WalletHub. The top-ranked city with the highest total score was Princeton, New Jersey, while Bessemer, Alabama, which calls itself "The Marvel City," ranked last. Read the full rankings here.
