At-home entertainment costs are increasing every day. Video-on-demand rentals typically cost at least $5 for new releases. Netflix charges a minimum monthly rate of $7.99. Recently, Redbox announced that it would raise its rates: beginning December 2, DVD rentals will cost $1.50 a night (a 25% increase) and Blu-ray disc rentals will rise by 33% to $2 a night. In contrast, Library cardholders will be able to borrow titles from Hoopla… for free.

In addition to movies and TV shows, Hoopla also offers streaming audiobooks and music. From Hollywood blockbusters to best-selling authors and artists, you’re sure to find something you’ll enjoy.

But it’s not just the latest titles—Hoopla also has an extensive catalog of educational materials, children’s titles, foreign films, and other hard-to-find content not offered anywhere else.

Starting December 1, Algonquin cardholders can visit www.hoopladigital.com and create an account -- there are also mobile apps for both iPhone and Android. Start streaming immediately, or download a title to your phone or tablet for offline listening later.

If you choose to download to your computer, you need to install a plug-in for your browser. Cardholders can borrow up to five titles each month and each title is returned automatically on the due date.
