'Bearded' Bandit Hits Algonquin In 5th Hirsute Heist

The wig-wearing robber keeps targeting grocery store bank branches.

ALGONQUIN, IL — A serial bank robber struck the northwest suburbs again Saturday, according to the FBI. The same man who is suspected of robbing at least four other area banks behind a false beard and a shaggy dark wig. For the fourth consecutive time, the bushy-haired bandit robbed a TCF bank located inside a Jewel-Osco grocery store, but local firefighters collecting Salvation Army donations outside helped detain the man for police.

He started with a a Chase Bank branch in Cary on Dec. 1, but each subsequent heist has taken place inside a grocery store, according to the FBI. First it was a Huntley Jewel-Osco, then another grocery store bank branch in Arlington Heights, Streamwood and, most recently, the branch at 103 South Randall Road in Algonquin.

All five robberies reportedly took place in the afternoon, between about 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., and no firearm was displayed in any of the incidents. They were all non-takeover robberies, where only the teller is aware the robbery is taking place.

Daniel R. Plushkis, 26, and Jessica E. Plushkis, 28, both of Crystal Lake, have been charged with robbery and burglary in connection with the Algonquin incident, in addition to what an FBI spokesperson described as "possible federal charges." The FBI confirmed Wednesday that Plushkis is the suspect in the previous robberies.
