Carpentersville Teen Arrested for Vehicle Burglary in Elgin
The man was spotted checking car door handles to see if they were locked Friday morning in Elgin. He was arrested a short time later.
ELGIN, IL - A 19-year-old Carpentersville man has been arrested for burglarizing vehicles in Elgin.
Jesus Villagomez, of the 0 to 100 hundred block of South Green Street in Carpentersville, has been charged with burglary, a class 2 felony, following his Friday arrest. His bond has been set at $10,000.
Elgin Police were called to the 1900 block of Castle Pine Circle at 9:17 a.m. on Friday for a report of a person who was checking car door handles to see if the vehicles were unlocked, according to an Elgin Police Department press release.

Following a brief foot chase, police arrested the man, who was later identified as Villagomez. Officers found items taken from a vehicle in the 1900 block of Castle Pine Circle in the area where Villagomez was taken into custody.
The Elgin Police Department residents awareness of the police department's public awareness campaign to help reduce motor vehicle burglaries. The "If You Like It, Lock It" campaign encourages residents to lock their vehicles at all times to reduce the risk of theft. Citizens are also encouraged to call the police to report suspicious persons in their neighborhood. The suspect in this case was arrested due to a call from a concerned citizen.
