ALGONGUIN, IL — Algonquin residents have the luxury of having a wealth of fast-casual dining options within a close proximity.

Later this week, Chick-Fil-A will add its name to the line-up. The popular chicken chain is scheduled to open on Thursday in the space formerly occupied by Aldi on Randall Road.

Chick-Fil-A said that as the COVID-19 pandemic continues, it will forego providing the first 100 people in line with a free food for a year and will instead honor 100 “local heroes” for making an impact in the community, according to a news release. Those local heroes will be honored with free food for a year, the chain restaurant said.

The location will also offer contactless payment and ordering options by using the Chick-Fil-A app. The location will employ about 80 people on a full-time and part-time basis, the release said.

The Algonquin location will be open from 6:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Saturday.

“For more than six years, my family and I have called McHenry County our home, and I am humbled by the opportunity to continue making a difference in the community that has meant so much to us,” franchisee J.D. Willis said in the release. “With the opening of Chick-fil-A Algonquin, I look forward to mentoring my team members and showing care for our new neighbors.”

Chick-Fil-A also said that it is partnering with Feeding America to make a $25,000 donation to a local food bank in honor of the new establishment. Funds will be provided to community partners in the greater Chicago area to aid in the “fight against hunger.”
