The burns will take place on Oct. 26 at the Ken Carpenter Park wetland, at the southwest corner of Miller and Randall roads; the Normandy wetland, at the northwest corner of Reed Road and Normandy Lane; and the South Annandale wetland, along South Annandale Drive between Steeplechase Way and Crossview Lane.
The prescribed burns are meant to keep out invasive plants, reduce pesticides and promote species diversity in the wetlands, according to a village of Lake in the Hills press release.
"Fire burns off dead vegetation and stimulates new plant growth by allowing sunlight to warm the dark soil, encouraging germination," according to the release. "Fire also enriches the soil by returning nutrients back to the soil."
Village officials are asking residents to keep pets inside and windows closed.
Applied Acological Services Inc. will conduct the controlled burns and will have portable radios and cellular phones to keep in touch with fire officials.
Depending on weather conditions, the prescribed burns may be rescheduled to a date between Nov. 7 and 18. If you have any questions regarding the prescribed burns, please contact the village of at 1-847-960-7500.
