Coroner IDs Woman, 25, Killed In Crash With Semi

The collision happened on Sept. 15 on Route 23 near River Road north of Marengo. Maria Flores-Hernandez, 25, died in the crash.

MCHENRY COUNTY , IL — A 25-year-old Woodstock woman who died in a four-vehicle crash near Marengo last week has been identified as Maria Flores-Hernandez.

The collision happened at about 4:40 p.m. on Sept. 15 when a 2014 Kenworth semi-tractor trailer, driven by a 47-year-old Joliet man, was headed south on Illinois Route 23 nearing River Road and collided with a 2008 Pontiac G6, which failed to yield and then pulled out into the intersection, according to police.

The semi crashed into the side of the Pontiac G6, which was driven by Flores-Hernandez. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminary findings from an autopsy show Flores-Hernandez died from blunt force trauma, authorities said.

A 2014 Nissan Rogue and 2001 Jeep Cherokee were headed north on Route 23 and also crashed into the semi and Pontiac, according to police. The driver of the Rogue, a 63-year-old Marengo woman, was taken to Northwestern Hospital in Huntley with minor injuries. The driver and passenger of the Nissan and the semi driver were treated and released at the scene.

Alcohol is not believed to be a contributing factor to the crash, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
