Crystal Lake Attorney Sentenced for Stealing $1.2 Million

A Crystal Lake attorney has been sentenced to nine years in prison on theft charges.

Curt Rehberg, 50, of Cary, entered guilty pleas to three counts of theft back in September and was sentenced Wednesday in McHenry County Court.

As an attorney, Rehberg represented several estates and trusts and was responsible for disbursing money to the beneficiaries of those estates and trusts, according to a McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office press release.

One of the counts against Rehberg was for stealing more than $500,000, which was intended for a donation to St. Jude’s Hospital, according to the news release.

Prosecutors said the total amount stolen from victims was $1.2 million.
