Donations Sought to Keep Founders Days Fireworks on Fox River

The fireworks may need to be moved from the Fox River if $16,000 isn't raised by June 12.

Do you want to see this year’s Founders Days fireworks on the river like has been the case in years past?

Well then, you are going to have to pay up.

A group, Friends of the Fox River Fireworks, is collecting donations to keep the tradition going. If $16,000 in donations isn’t collected by June 12, the fireworks will have to be moved from the Fox River, according to an online donation page.

Algonquin Founders Days will be held July 23 through July 26. The fireworks show is slated for 9 p.m. on the final day of the festival but a location for the fireworks has yet to be decided.

“This year the volunteers are being faced with moving the fireworks off the river, in order to generate the money needed to fund the fireworks,” according to the donation website. “They do NOT want to make the move, but have no choice, unless funds are raised to cover the cost of the display.”

As of Tuesday afternoon, over $10,000 in funds had been donated to the online campaign. If the committee is unable to raise $16,000, the donations will be refunded.

You can make a donation online or by sending a check to Algonquin Founders’ Day, P.O. Box 101, Algonquin, IL 60102 (Attn: FIREWORKS).
