Draw Down of Lake in the Hills Lakes Will Start Friday

The village engineer will perform inspections of dams after the water is lowered.

The annual draw down of Woods Creek Lake and triennial draw down of Goose Lake will begin on Friday, November 4.

The purpose of lowering the lakes is to allow the village engineer to perform inspections of the dams. The inspections are required by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, according to a news release.

The draw down, inspection, and lake recovery (refill) process will take about three weeks, according to a news release.

Under ideal weather conditions the lakes will be at their minimum water levels by November 7 and at that time the inspections will be conducted. The village will then close the gates and allow the natural recovery process to start immediately following the inspections, according to a news release.

Full recovery of the lakes should be completed within three to four weeks, according to a village news release.
