Five Teens Accused of Making Threatening Comments at Huntley High School
Social media posts and comments have lead to charges against teens from Algonquin, Lake in the Hills and Huntley.

Five students have been charged with disorderly conduct for allegations they made comments and social media posts that were threatening in nature. The threats, police said, caused an increases in absences at Huntley High School on Feb. 8.
The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office has charged the teens with the following charges:
- A 17-year-old Lake in the Hills boy has been charged with disorderly conduct -- a Class C misdemeanor
- A 15-year-old Algonquin boy has been charged with disorderly conduct - a Class 4 felony
- A 16-year-old Lake in the Hills boy has been charged with disorderly conduct - a Class 4 felony
- A 17-year-old Algonquin boy has been charged with disorderly conduct - a Class 4 felony
- A 16-year-old Huntley boy has been charged with disorderly conduct - a Class 4 felony
Huntley High School was made aware of a ”small number of isolated comments and social media postings that were threatening in nature” between Feb. 3 and 5, according to a Huntley Police Department press release.

“The Huntley Police Department and Huntley Community School District 158 take these matters seriously and vigorously investigate the intent and authenticity of such issues,” according to the news release. “The Huntley Police Department, in cooperation with Huntley High School, continuously takes measures to safeguard the student body and facilities to ensure a safe environment for students and staff.”
All of the juveniles have been petitioned to McHenry County Juvenile Court.

“These investigations were completed with the cooperation of many individuals, and their efforts are appreciated,” police said.
Police said students and parents are reminded to be vigilant of issues that come to their attention that they believe may be unsafe or suspicious, and to report such matters to appropriate authorities for further investigation. These incidents, police said, also provide an opportunity for parents to speak with their children about appropriate use of social media and the potential consequences of bullying, harassment, or threat
