Go for the Bang Bang Shrimp
Annie, Tom and McKenzie enjoy an adult-only dinner at Bonefish Grill.
I was really looking forward to my restaurant of choice last week. So much so, that I hired my wonderful teenage neighbor to come over to babysit the little kids so my husband and I could take my teenage daughter, McKenzie, to dinner.
I had been looking forward to all week. It is one of my parents’ favorite restaurants and actually, one of mine as well. Bonefish Grill is located at 1604 South Randall Road in Algonquin, in the Algonquin Commons area.
I made a reservation for a party of three for 6:15 on Friday night. We arrived promptly at 6:15 p.m., but our table was not ready. We received a little your-table-is-ready-beeper and took a seat on the benches in the bar area.

After a 10-minute wait, we were taken to our table in the middle of the restaurant. We ordered our drinks and looked over our menus. Bonefish keeps their lighting low, so if you have trouble seeing in the dark, as I do, you may want to bring a mini flashlight along with you.
We started our meal with the Bang Bang Shrimp. Bang Bang Shrimp is my favorite thing to eat at Bonefish Grill. It is crispy fried shrimp, tossed in a creamy spicy sauce. We like to eat our Bang Bang Shrimp with chopsticks that are provided at the table. Tom and I love this appetizer. McKenzie only ate two and thought they were too spicy. More for us!

We all ordered a small bowl of the Corn Chowder Lump Crab soup. Another big hit at our table. Creamy and full of lumpy crab goodness.
McKenzie had a hard time deciding what to order and finally settled on the Florida Cobb Salad – grilled chicken, avocado, mango, tomatoes, Danish Bleu cheese and citrus herb vinaigrette. She ordered it because she loves mango and avocados and said the salad was fantastic except there were not enough avocados or mangoes.
Tom ordered the grilled Sea Scallops and Shrimp with the Lemon Butter sauce – the scallops and shrimp are grilled over a wood burning grill. He said it was awesome.
I had Lily’s Chicken – grilled chicken breast, goat cheese, spinach, artichoke hearts and a lemon basil sauce. Awesome. Just awesome. I love goat cheese and I love the favor of the goat cheese mixed with the artichoke hearts. I only ate half because I wanted to save room for dessert.
For dessert, McKenzie had the Key Lime Pie. She said it was the best Key Lime Pie she has ever had. I will have to take her word for it because I do not like Key Limes. Tom ordered Jen’s Jamaican Coconut Pie. He said it was okay. After he ate it, he wished he would have shared my Creme Brulee with me. Again, I will have to take his word for it, I do not like coconut and I did not want anything to distract me from the best of all best desserts…. Crème Brulee. So, so delicious.
I encourage you, my friends, to go to Bonefish Grill and order the Bang Bang Shrimp and the Crème Brulee. You will not be disappointed.
