Goat, Pigs Removed from Huntley Property; Neglected Horse Dies: Health Officials
McHenry County Health Department officials and police responded to the property Tuesday afternoon to investigate a citizen complaint.

A goat, four juvenile pigs and a horse were found in poor condition and removed from a Huntley property Tuesday afternoon after health officials said the animals had been neglected.
The horse died while being transported to the University of Wisconsin Veterinary Hospital, Keri Zaleski, community information officer for the McHenry County Department of Health, said Thursday. No one has been arrested as of Thursday morning in the neglect case, Zaleski said.
A McHenry County Animal Control and Adoption (MCAC) Officer, along with the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and two representatives of the Hooved Animal Humane Society (HAHS), responded to the property on Diekman Road in Huntley at about 1 p.m. Tuesday, Zaleski said in a news release.

“Upon arrival, it was determined that a number of animals were in poor condition and emergency care by a licensed veterinarian was required, Zaleski said. “Impounded and immediately removed from the property were one horse, one goat and four juvenile pigs.”

- a sufficient quantity of good quality, wholesome, food and water
- adequate shelter and protection from the weather;
- veterinary care when needed to prevent suffering; and
- humane care and treatment
