Huntley Officials Vote Down Outlet Mall Redevelopment Plan
The Huntley Outlet Mall was razed last spring. A developer wanted to build warehouse and distribution buildings at the site.

HUNTLEY, IL -- The Huntley Village Board last week rejected a developer's plan to redevelop 60 acres of the former Huntley Outlet Mall and build warehouse and distribution buildings at the site. Huntley Investment Partners LLC approached the village with a plan to build three warehouse/distribution buildings, ranging in size from 177,320-square-feet to 245,280-square-feet, at the site off of Route 47, with the hopes of bringing businesses to town that would employ up to 700 people, according to the Daily Herald.
The developer also sought to rezone the site from regional retail to allow industrial/light manufacturing uses, office and research and special use permits for warehouse, storage and distribution, according to the article. The plan commission approved the measure in a 4-3 vote in March. On Thursday, the village board voted 4-2 against the plan, according to the article.
Village officials say they would like to see businesses like a hotel or restaurant utilize the former outlet mall, which was demolished last spring after 22 years in town.
