Lake In The Hills Police Post School Bus Safety Reminder

"Thank you for helping keep children safe," police said.

LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL — The Lake In The Hills Police Department is reminding drivers of school bus safety rules. The reminder comes in the wake of the deaths of three Indiana siblings who were hit by a car while it passed a school bus with its stop arm out.

The police department posted the following reminder on its Facebook page:

"A driver is required to stop his/her vehicle before passing a school bus from either direction. An exception is when the driver is on a highway with 4 or more lanes with at least two lanes of traffic in either direction. If the driver is going in the opposite direction of the bus, they do not have to stop."
