Learn about the Wisconsin Historical Society (WHS) Library and Archives and get ready for the Library’s June 25 Road Trip! These two repositories in one building are located in the heart of the University of Wisconsin campus in Madison. Here you’ll find some of finest genealogical holdings on the continent, including exceptional French-Canadian and Midwestern resources. George Findlen, professional genealogist and WHS volunteer at WHS will demonstrate, step by step, how to locate family histories, compiled genealogies, newspapers, pre-1907 Wisconsin vital records, civil war records, and more through the on-line digital catalogs for the library, the archives, and digital records made available at the WHS web site. The talk concludes with a description of the microfilm readers and scanners visitors can use to make copies and other services provided by WHS to support users both on site and from afar. Handouts will be available to prepare for your visit.

Genealogy Road Trip

Bus departs from/returns to the D300 Administrative Building parking lot
Saturday, June 25, 7 am - 7 pm
Adults over 18
Fee: $40 (lunch on your own)
Spend a full day researching your ancestors in one of the five largest genealogical collections in the United States. The bus leaves from Algonquin for the UW Campus in Madison, Wisconsin, at 7 am and returns to Algonquin at approximately 7 pm. Upon arrival at the Wisconsin Historical Society (WHS), enjoy a 30-minute orientation tour by a WHS genealogist. Reference librarians will be on duty to provide assistance. Algonquin Library District Librarians Kristen McCallum and Virginia Donahue will also be available to assist with individual research. Attendees are encouraged to attend the companion preparation event on Monday, June 13.
