The Literacy Connection is Looking for English Learners

Know someone who needs help learning English?

The Literacy Connection is Looking for Adults Who Would Like to Improve Their English Literacy Skills.

Do you know someone who struggles to read or speak English? Would improving English skills help them succeed in the workplace or become more involved in their children’s lives and in the community? The Literacy Connection is looking for area residents who need help reaching their English literacy goals. With funding provided by the Secretary of State Literacy Office, United Way, private donations and fundraising, we recruit and train volunteers and match them with adult learners. Our program is designed to help adults who are either basic literacy learners or ESL learners.

Basic literacy learners are those who speak English proficiently, but read below the 9th grade level. They need help reading, writing and spelling English in order to function more self-sufficiently.

English as a Second Language (ESL) learners are adults whose native language is not English. Some ESL learners understand and speak a little English, others speak no English. ESL learners would be provided with individualized instruction to help acquire the ability to read, write, speak and understand English.

We have trained tutors in the Algonquin area who are ready to help!
