LITH Seeks Input on Village Signs

Public input is sought as village officials work to update its sign ordinance.

From LITH: The Village of Lake in the Hills is starting the process of updating its Sign Ordinance and is looking for input from its businesses and residents. The Sign Ordinance is part of the Village’s Zoning Ordinance and regulates the appearance, size, and placement of all signs in the Village. It is necessary to reduce visual clutter and protect the community’s values. Inputs from both businesses and residents are essential to the success of this project and to ensure the regulation of signage accurately reflects what the Village’s residents and businesses feel is most important. The current Sign Ordinance is on the Village’s website at www.lith.org as Section 16, Signs of the Zoning Ordinance.

The Village’s Planning and Zoning Commission will host a discussion at its regular monthly meeting at 7:30 pm on Monday, May 13th, at Village Hall. Everyone is invited to come participate or just listen. “We are opening this dialog based on suggestions from our business community that the current regulations do not reflect their needs.” said Fred Mullard, Community Services Director.

“We want to improve our current regulation to best meet the needs and identity of the community. Without proper regulation, signage of all shapes and sizes could grow out of control and make the community look like a cluttered mess. The Sign Ordinance affects signs in both business and residential areas, so everyone’s input is critical.” Those who cannot attend the meeting but would like to provide comments or suggestions can submit them in writing by email at cd@lith.org, drop off written comments at the Village Hall Customer Service counter, or send them through the Post Office to the Village Hall Attention to Community Services at 600 Harvest Gate, Lake in the Hills, Il 60156. Please include your name and a way to contact you, in case clarification is necessary.

Based on the community’s input and staff comments a suggested revision to the ordinance will be prepared. A public hearing to consider the proposed revisions will occur at the regular meeting of the Planning and Zoning Commission on June 17. This will provide everyone another opportunity to comment or make suggestions. When approved by the Planning and Zoning Commission, the Village Board of Trustees will consider the final changes for adoption.
