Long-Awaited Algonquin Library Renovations Get Underway

The first phase of a three-phase renovation project started this past week at the main library.

ALGONQUIN, IL -- A long-awaited $6.7 million expansion project at the Algonquin Public Library got underway this past week. The first phase of the three-phase project will include an 8,000-square-foot addition onto the northeast side of the main library at 2600 Harnish Drive, according to the Northwest Herald.

The Northwest Herald reports:

The new wing will add a creation zone for children and a new homework center to the lower level, as well as a quiet periodical reading room to the upper level. The expansion also will add six new group study rooms on both the upper and lower levels, bringing the total up to eight.

In addition, the majority of the library's collection will be moved into the new wing following construction to make room for the next two phases of the renovation project, which will include a children's play area and picture book section, according to the Northwest Herald.
