Man Jailed In Road Rage Incident Is Free On Bail

The man displayed an airsoft gun and then drove to the parking area of a local school, leading to a lockdown of the campus, police said.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — A Chicago man arrested Friday in a road rage incident has been released from jail after posting bond.

Donovan C. Stewart, 23, is accused of displaying what appeared to be a handgun while driving in the area of Deerpass and River roads at about 9:15 a.m. on Friday. Stewart's 1997 Toyota RAV4 was later spotted pulling into the Prairie Grove Junior High School campus parking lot and driving to the rear parking area, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.

Officers took the man into custody and learned the weapon he displayed was actually an airsoft gun that looked like a handgun, according to the news release.

Both Prairie Grove Junior High and Prairie Grove Elementary schools were placed on lockdown during the incident, authorities said. Teachers were at the schools at the time but no students were on the campus.

Authorities said Stewart drove to the school because he was employed by a company hired by the district. He was not an employee of the school district, authorities said.
