Man Walking Dog Across Route 62 Fatally Hit By Car: Police

ALGONQUIN, IL — An 80-year-old Carpentersville man was killed Thursday night after he was hit by a car while walking with his dog across Route 62 in Algonquin.

The incident happened at about 8:05 p.m. Thursday on Route 62 east of Compton Drive when the vehicle driven by a 48-year-old Lake in the Hills man hit the elderly Carpentersville man. Police said the older man had been walking his dog south across the eastbound lanes of traffic on Route 62 when he was hit.

According to authorities, the Carpentersville man, whose name has not yet been released, was wearing dark clothing and not walking within a crosswalk. He was taken to Northwestern Hospital in Huntley where he was later pronounced dead.

The Lake in the Hills man was not injured in the incident. The man's dog was injured and the Carpentersville man's family took the dog to an animal hospital following the incident, Ryan Marham, deputy chief of administration for the Algonquin Police Department, told Patch in an email response.

He said he was not aware of the dog's current condition or the extent of the animal's injuries.

Authorities closed down Route 62 from Compton Drive to Route 25 for three hours following the collision, and the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team was called to the scene to assist in the investigation.

The incident remains under investigation by the Algonquin Police Department. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is encouraged to call the Algonquin Police Department at 847-658-4531.
